Box Score 2 Denver, Colorado – The Regis University Ranger softball team split in the first day of play against the Colorado Christian Cougars (8-12, 5-3 RMAC) tallying their first loss in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Rangers move to an overall record of 13-7 and 8-1 in the RMAC.
In the first game, the score would remain 0-0 until the bottom of the third when the Rangers got the bats swinging. Three singles in a row from junior Nicole Hull (Westminster, Colorado), sophomore Alyssa Finger (Las Vegas, Nevada), and junior Kaci McClure (Huntsville, Arkansas) loaded the bases as sophomore Bradey King (Loveland, Colorado) stepped into the box. King singled to score Hull and put RU on the scoreboard first, 1-0.
Freshman Emily John (Beaverton, Oregon) reached on by error and two more runs scored, 3-0. Senior Taylor Wilcox (El Centro, California) doubled to left center to bring two more across the plate making the score 5-0 and freshman Delaney McGinn (Arvada, Colorado) rounded out the half inning scoring Wilcox off a single to second.
The Rangers held a 6-0 lead but not for long, a two-run homerun in the top of the fourth got the Cougars on the scoreboard, 6-2. CCU would score one more in the top of the sixth but the Rangers held them to two more in the top of the seventh to close out the win.
On nine hits and six runs, RU took the first game 6-5. Junior Nicole Aviles (Phoenix, Arizona) earned the win pitching all seven innings allowing just six hits and striking out 11 batters. She moved to 10-3 overall. Wilcox led on the day offensively adding two more RBI's to the stat sheet.
In the second game, the Rangers struggled offensively to find any rhythm. Cougar pitcher Tana Feiner pitched a perfect game until the bottom of the fifth when McGinn doubled to center but nothing would come of it.
CCU tallied two runs early in the top of the first. Regis had no response, continuing to have difficulties in the batter's box.
The Cougars scored two in the top of the fourth and three more in the top of the fifth to blank the Rangers, 7-0, and take game two of the double-header. McGinn tallied the lone hit of the game for RU.
Regis and Colorado Christian have one more day of double-header action beginning at 11 a.m. on Sunday, March 15.
