Regis Lacrosse Earns First Conference Win Against Colorado Mesa

Box Score

Denver, Colorado- Under nothing but sunny skies, the Regis Lacrosse team surged to a dominant 21-11 win over Colorado Mesa earning their first conference win of the season. This is the second win over Colorado Mesa for the Rangers as they met up earlier in the season in a non-conference battle.

Scoring started off quickly in today's game. Junior Midfielder Emily Elkins started the scoring with a free position shot and score just :58 seconds into the game. The Mavericks would just as quickly answer when Hannah Peyton scored at the 28:06 mark to even the score up at one.

Regis and Colo. Mesa would trade goals once more before the Rangers would rattle off four goals in a two and a half minute period. Freshman midfielder Jada Bonner scored back-to-back goals before fellow junior midfielders Katie Larson and Maribel Gallegos each scored to show 6-2 on the scoreboard. Colo. Mesa stopped the bleeding momentarily scoring two goals, but sophomore Sarah Lugo kept things rolling for Regis scoring with 8:43 to go in the half. Colo. Mesa would score twice more before the end of the half, but the Rangers bested that number scoring three more. The tally at the break was 10-6 in favor of Regis.

After Gallegos scored to start the second half, Colo. Mesa was able to close the gap between themselves and Regis. The Mavericks netted three goals in just over two minutes to bring the Rangers within two at 11-9 with 25:7 to go in the game.

Then, the Rangers started to pour on the goals. In less than ten minutes the Rangers scored seven straight to extend their lead to 18-9. Colorado Mesa managed two more goals before senior attacker Lily Colley, sophomore midfielder Anna Takushi, and Elkins each scored to close the game at 21-11.

Elkins exploded on offense scoring five goals off of just six shots. Larson and junior midfielder Melissa Hastings each contributed three goals. Four other Rangers scored two goals each. Senior goalkeeper Gianna Lombardi earned her fourth straight win and now holds a 4-2 record on the season.

The Rangers are back in action tomorrow for another conference match-up. Regis will take on Rockhurst at the Regis Lacrosse Field beginning at noon.
