Box Score 2 Pueblo, Colorado- The Regis Rangers Baseball (4-6) met with CSU-Pueblo (10-2) today for a double header. Both games did not end in Regis' favor. The Thunderwolves took game one by the score of 9-2 and the second ended 4-2. The Rangers have now dropped five straight games after a 4-1 start to their season.
Game one scoring started in the top of the second inning when freshman second baseman Mickey Meinhofer singled to right field allowing junior first baseman Dylan Navarro make a dash for home plate from third. CSU-Pueblo would answer with a run of their own in the bottom of the second, knotting things up a 1-1.
The third inning goes by with no action on the scoreboard, but in the top of the fourth Regis would strike again. Junior DH Ryan Benedict took a slow stroll across home after junior shortstop Drew LaComb was hit by a pitch and advanced all runners. The Rangers would leave three on base finishing the top of the fourth and they could have used the extra runs.
CSU-Pueblo would go on to score three in the bottom of the fourth jumping ahead 4-2. The Thunderwolves did more damage in the remaining innings scoring five more runs bringing them to their first game total of nine. Regis would leave three on base in the last five innings and were held scoreless.
In the second game, it was the Thunderwolves that would strike first; CSU-Pueblo scored one in the bottom of the second. Regis got two runners across home in the top of the third inning. Meinhofer scored off a junior centerfielder Weston Byers double down the right base line. LaComb scored from third due to a wild pitch.
Again, the Rangers just could not get any more offense going later in the game. While CSU-Pueblo answered in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 2-2. Then went of to score two more in the bottom of the sixth to close the game at 4-2.
Senior third baseman Logan Knox and Benedict led the team with two total hits over both games. Sophomore pitcher Nick DiPaola (1-2) took the loss in game one and freshman pitcher Chris Quackenbush (1-1) was handed the loss in game two.
Late last week it was announced these two teams would face off in another double-header on Wednesday. Those two games have been cancelled. The Rangers hope to host Adams St. this upcoming weekend for their first home stand of the season. Regis and Adams St. will meet on Friday, March 6th with a first pitch set for 2 pm. A double-header is set for Saturday, March 7th with game at 11 am and 2 pm. The series will be wrapped up on Sunday, March 8th at 12 pm.
