Box Score Greely, Colorado- Tuesday last week, Regis Baseball lost to Northern Colorado in the bottom of the ninth after taking the lead early. In today's rematch, the Rangers took care of business still scoring early, but also added a solid start by senior pitcher Jordan Blaylock.
Regis jumped out early to a two run lead in the top of the first inning. Junior left fielder C.J. McGrady took a short stroll from third to put the Rangers on the board when senior third baseman Logan Knox doubled to left center field. Next, Knox scored when freshman first baseman Andrew Bryniarski slapped a single through the right side.
In the second inning, Regis tacked on three more runs and the Bears answered with their first run of the game. Freshman Connor Rochon, Mickey Meinhofer, and John Flint each scored in the top of the second before UNC's Marco Castilla scored in the second half of the inning. Through two, the Rangers led the Bears 5-1.
The third inning reflected the second almost exactly. Regis earned three more runs with Bryniarski, junior second baseman Drew LaComb, and freshman catcher Christian Bitar scoring. Reyn Sugai scored the Bear's second run to end the inning at eight.
Flint went yard for his second home run of the season and gave the Rangers there last run of the game.
Blaylock earned the 9-2 win for his first of the season working seven innings and striking out six. Freshman Noah Gotsis worked the eighth allowing just one hit and junior Jake Long closed the game in the ninth surrendering zero hits and zero runs.
Flint led Regis offensively, hitting 1-3 and scoring twice. Seven different Rangers scored one run.
The vicotory is Regis' 10th win of the season and they will be trying to get back to .500 this weekend in a four-game series hosting crosstown rival MSU-Denver. Four wins against the Roadrunners would also bring the Rangers to an even nine wins and nine losses in conference play.
The series begins on Friday with a first pitch set for 3p.m. On Saturday, the two teams will square off in a double header at 12 and 3 p.m. The fourth and final game is set for Sunday at noon.
