Rangers Close Out Florida Trip With 15-13 Win Over Pfeiffer

Box Score

Saint Leo, Florida- The No. 16 Regis Lacrosse team has failed to strike and score first in each of their past two games which has resulted in two losses. Today, the Rangers were the first to score and earned the 15-13 win over No. 17 Pfeiffer (2-2). The win brings Regis' record to an even 2-2.

Senior midfielder Emily Behr continued her offensive hot streak scoring three of the first four Rangers goals. Sophomore attacker Sarah Lugo contributed the fourth of those goals at the 15:29 mark and shortly after Behr netted her third to put the Rangers up 4-1 with approximately 14:30 to go in the first half. For much of the week, it had been Regis attempting to catch with their opponents on the scoreboard, but today was the opposite. Pfeiffer attempted to close the gap, but the Rangers held a decent advantage heading to halftime, 9-5.

The Rangers got the scoring rolling again to start the second half. Sophomore midfielder Erin Steiner drove into the Pfeiffer defense and scored an unassisted goal just thirty-two seconds into the half putting Regis up 10-5. Pfeiffer would eventually get into an offensive rhythm that resulted in eight goals to only Regis' two during a fifteen minute run. The offensive explosion for Pfeiffer put them on top 13-12 with just under ten minutes to go in the game.

The Rangers remained poised scoring three goals to take back the lead and kept Pfeiffer from adding to their total to close out the game. Sophomore midfielder Anna Takushi received an assist from Behr and rocketed the ball to the back of the net to even the score at 13. Steiner capitalized on a free position shot scoring at the 5:11 mark and so did junior midfielder Emily Elkins with 3:08 remaining.

Behr and Lugo each led the Rangers in scoring with four. Behr also contributed three assists; Lugo had two. Senior goalkeeper Gianna Lombardi earned her first win of the season (1-2).

Between today's closely battled game with a ranked opponent and the two from earlier this week, the Rangers should return to Denver more prepared to continue their conference slate.

The Rangers will play their fourth game in eight days on Sunday. Fort Lewis will be visiting Denver and the two teams will meet up at Dick's Sporting Goods Park for a draw set for 3:30 pm.
