Box Score 2 Pueblo, Colorado – Continuing the hot streak and closing out the pod series at Colorado State-Pueblo with two more wins. The Rangers (11-7, 7-0 RMAC) have now won seven straight and remain undefeated in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
In game one against the Colorado Mesa Mavericks (12-10, 8-2, RMAC), the Rangers put a three-spot on the scoreboard early in the bottom of the first. Junior Nicole Aviles (Phoenix, Arizona) singled to center to score sophomore Bradey King (Loveland, Colorado) who reached on base from hit by pitch. Sophomore Carlie Sexton (Littleton, Colorado) then homered to left field on two outs to tally two RBI's and give RU a 3-0 lead.
The Mavericks brought one across the plate in each the top of the third and fourth to close in on Regis, 3-2. The Rangers would score two more on three hits in the bottom of the fourth to place some distance back into the score, 5-2.
A huge bottom of the sixth for Regis with multiple players getting in on the action as they continued to increase the lead to 9-2, made them untouchable by the Mavericks. Four different Rangers tallied RBI's in that half inning.
Aviles, also on the mound for RU, closed out the top of the seventh allowing just one hit and leaving two on base to secure the win. She moves to a 9-3 overall record allowing just two runs and recording three strikeouts.
In game two against the ThunderWolves (8-11, 4-3 RMAC) Regis opened the top of the first up bringing three across the plate off singles from freshman Emily John (Beaverton, Oregon) and Aviles. CSU-Pueblo responded in the bottom half of the inning scoring two off a double.
Bats were still swinging in RU's favor in the top of the second scoring two more to lead 5-2 until a ThunderWolves three-run homer in the bottom of the third evened the score, 5-5.
In the top of the fourth, sophomore Alyssa Finger (Las Vegas, Nevada) doubled to center and a sacrifice bunt by King scored Finger to give the Rangers back the lead, 6-5. Closing out the game strong and not leaving anything to chance was senior Taylor Wilcox (El Centro, California) driving in two more runs in the top of the seventh to seal the win.
Junior Nicole Hull (Westminster, Colorado) earned the win on the mound for RU. She threw six strikeouts and allowed seven hits to move to 3-3 on the season.
Wilcox led the Rangers on the day tallying four RBI's. Regis combined for 18 total hits on 55 at bats and of their 16 combined RBI's, nine different players recorded at least one.
RU moves to 12-6 overall and undefeated in the RMAC at 7-0. The Rangers are back on their home field Saturday, March 14 and Sunday, March 15 hosting Colorado Christian (7-11, 4-2 RMAC). Saturday's doubleheader is at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. Sunday's doubleheader is at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
