Box Score 2 Denver, Colorado – In the final series of the regular season, the Regis University Ranger softball team hosted the Western New Mexico Lady Mustangs (21-28, 18-20 RMAC). The Rangers split on the day dropping in the first game 1-2 but bouncing back to take the second game 2-1. RU moves to an overall record of 27-17 and 22-11 in the RMAC.
After three scoreless innings in the first game, the Lady Mustangs brought two across on three hits to lead 2-0. The Rangers could not seem to find any sort of offensive rhythm throughout much of the game.
On two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Regis loaded the bases on singles from senior Brianna Bogdajewicz (Streamwood, Illinois), freshman Emily John (Beaverton, Oregon), and sophomore Bradey King (Loveland, Colorado). Sophomore Carlie Sexton (Littleton, Colorado) was hit by a pitch to score Bogdajewicz bringing RU within one, 2-1, with winning runs on base.
Unfortunately, Western New Mexico was able to get the last out of the inning to close out the game for the first win of the series. Junior Nicole Aviles (Phoenix, Arizona) tallied seven strikeouts to record the loss and move to an overall record of 17-8.
The Rangers were able to get on the scoreboard first in the second game. Senior Taylor Wilcox earned the RBI off a double to score one and advance another. RU led after the first inning of play, 1-0.
Bogdajewicz started the bottom of the fifth off for Regis beating the throw to first on a well-placed bunt. She quickly followed that up with a steal to second. John then moved her to third while grounding out to third. Bogdajewicz would score on a fielder's choice to give the Rangers a 2-0 lead after five innings of play.
On one hit in the top of the sixth, the Lady Mustangs converted bringing the lead back to one, 2-1. With two outs and the bases loaded in the top of the seventh, Western New Mexico looked as if they were going to make something happen. Sexton fielded the Lady Mustang hit, slid to first to record the putout and seal the victory for RU.
Junior Nicole Hull (Westminster, Colorado) allowed five hits and tallied one strikeout earning the win on the mound and moving to an overall record of 10-9. The Rangers were led offensively on the day by John and Sexton, each with three hits.
