Rangers Take Games Three and Four to Split Series with Adams St.

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Denver, Colorado- After dropping the first two games of a four-game series against Adams St. yesterday, the Regis Baseball team took both from today's double-header. The Rangers put away the Grizzlies early in game one winning 14-6 with ten runs coming in the first two innings. The second game played out just the opposite as the Grizzlies tied up the game in the top of the last inning before the Rangers eventually scored again in the bottom of the inning to win 5-4.

Game one was over just about as soon as it hit the bottom of the first inning. The bottom half was loaded with Ranger hits and runs with junior left fielder C.J. McGrady scoring first. Senior third baseman Logan Knox was next to cross home plate thanks to a freshman first baseman Andrew Bryniarski double to right field. Bryniarski was driven in with a junior catcher Marco Burciaga single up the middle. Lastly, Bruciaga and junior right fielder Brian Sture scored runs four and five when junior center fielder Weston Byers singled to right.

The second inning was filled with much of the same action. This time the scoring was started off with a three-run shot over the fence by Bryniarski scoring McGrady and Knox in the process. Sture and Burciaga would score their second runs of the game pushing the Ranger lead to 10-0 through just two innings.

After two more runs by Regis, Adams St. finally attempted to fight back with a four run inning in the 5th. The two teams would trade runs in the 6th and 7th completing the 14-6 final score.

The Rangers scored first once again in game two of the afternoon. The first run came from McGrady stealing home as Knox conned the Grizzlie catcher to throw to second. Adams St. took the lead with two runs in the top of the second inning, but the Rangers quickly tied things up at 2-2 scoring in the bottom half.

In the bottom of the third, the Rangers scored twice when junior catcher Ryan Benedict singled to right field. Bryniarski and junior DH Ty Overboe were the two to reach home. Regis was up once again 4-2. In the sixth inning, Adams St. stepped even closer to the Ranger lead scoring once and finally knotted the game up at 4-4 in the top of the seventh inning.

It was Overboe who played hero once again for the Rangers singling up the middle to score Byers. The 5-4 result in favor of the home side was Overboe second walk-off winner of the season.

Starters Brad Thoutt and Matt Heibult each earned wins; Thoutt with number four of the season and Heibult with number six. Sophomore Thoutt worked five innings striking out five while allowing five runs. Freshman Heibult pitched a complete seven inning game giving up just four runs on 11 hits and striking out three. While all the Rangers contributed immensely on the offensive side, three stuck out. McGrady hit 5-9, scoring four runs; LaComb went 3-6, scoring three times, and had 1 RBI; Bryniarski hit 5-8, scoring four times, and contributed five RBIs.

The Rangers will wrap-up their 2015 regular season next weekend as they host New Mexico Highlands. Games one and two of the four game series is set for Friday, May 1st in a double-header at 12 & 3 p.m. Games two and three are set for Saturday at 12 & 3 p.m. On Saturday, May 2nd
