Box Score 2 Chadron, Nebraska – The Regis University Ranger softball team cruised past the Chadron State Eagles (8-26, 8-14 RMAC) in the first day doubleheader. The Rangers allowed just one run throughout both games defeating the Eagles 5-1 and then 4-0.
Chadron State started out the first game taking a 1-0 lead. The run came early in the bottom of the first and they would continue to hold that lead until the top of the fourth. Two singles from freshman Emily John (Beaverton, Oregon) and sophomore Carlie Sexton (Littleton, Colorado) put runners in scoring positions as senior Taylor Wilcox (El Centro, California) stepped into the box. Wilcox put one over the fence to tally three RBI's giving the Rangers their first lead of the game, 3-1.
Regis would bring two more across the plate in the top of the fifth sealing the 5-1 victory over the Eagles. Junior Nicole Aviles (Phoenix, Arizona) pitched all seven innings for RU throwing eight strikeouts and allowing just four hits. Aviles overall record on the season moves to 14-4.
In the second game, the Rangers opened the top of the first scoring sophomore Bradey King (Loveland, Colorado) from Sexton putting the ball in play to record another RBI. Junior Nicole Hull (Westminster, Colorado) earned the win on the mound for Regis. Hull threw 61 strikes in 89 pitches to allow just three hits and no runs.
Two more runs came across in the top of the fourth and one in the top of the sixth as RU moves to an overall record of 23-9 and 18-3 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
The Rangers combined for 16 total hits and eight RBI's. John led Regis offensively recording five hits and one RBI. All three pitchers saw action; Aviles, Hull, and sophomore Rachelle Knudson (Sterling, Colorado) allowed just seven hits on the day and tallied 12 combined strikeouts.
RU and the Eagles wrap up the series Saturday, April 4 in doubleheader action set to begin at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
