Regis Softball Takes Home RMAC Tournament Championship

Box Score

Denver, Colorado – The Regis University Ranger Softball team went undefeated throughout the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament defeating each and every opponent that stepped in their path to the top.  The Rangers improve to 31-17 overall and earned the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament by taking down the number one seed Metro State Roadrunners 1-0.  The NCAA Tournament field will be announced at 8 a.m. on Monday, May 4.

Junior Nicole Aviles (Phoenix, Arizona) pitched an outstanding RMAC Tournament and today was no different.  Aviles threw all seven innings for Regis allowing just three hits, no runs, and tallying one strikeout.  She moves to an overall record of 19-8.

In a defensive game, the Rangers were able to muster up five hits and score the only run of the game in the bottom of the fourth.  With runners on first and second, junior Nicole Hull (Westminster, Colorado) singled to left center, recording the only RBI of the game, to score senior Taylor Wilcox (El Centro, California) and take the lead, 1-0.

All it takes is one and Regis found themselves hoisting the RMAC Championship trophy and shutting out the RMAC regular season champions.

Aviles was awarded the RMAC Tournament MVP for her consistent performance throughout tournament play.  In the 25 innings she pitched, Aviles allowed just eleven total hits and three runs while recording 16 strikeouts to post an ERA of 0.28 on the tournament.

Hull, sophomore Alyssa Finger (Las Vegas, Nevada), and freshman Emily John (Beaverton, Oregon) were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Hull threw in nine innings for RU to allow just three runs and tally nine strikeouts while also recording two hits and an RBI on the offensive side.  Finger batted .429 on the tournament producing six hits, including three from the Western New Mexico win.  John also saw three hits in the WNMU game and recorded six total in throughout the four games.
