Box Score 2 San Antonio, Texas – A day full of mixed emotions for the Regis University Ranger softball team as they experienced both highs and lows. This special season has come to a close after fighting from a 10-4 deficit against the Texas Woman's Pioneers to win 11-10 and then falling 10-2 to the St. Mary's Rattlers, the second seed and host school.
In the first game, resiliency shined throughout as the Rangers never gave up in the fight to comeback and overcome the Pioneers. Sophomore Carlie Sexton (Littleton, Colorado) doubled down the left field line in the top of the first to break the single-game record for most doubles. She now holds the record at 18. RU took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first and tacked one more on in the top of the third. Texas Woman's came alive in the bottom of the third to put up four and take control of a 4-2 lead.
Carrying over into the bottom of the fourth, the Pioneers tallied three more to the home side of the scoreboard to lead 7-2. The Rangers flipped a switch and began slowly etching away at the run difference.
Regis brought two across in the top of the fifth but the Pioneers followed the top half up with three more in the bottom of the fifth. The score then read 10-4 in favor of Texas Woman's.
Holding the Pioneers to a scoreless final two innings, RU began their comeback kicked off by junior Nicole Aviles (Phoenix, Arizona) singling up the middle. On three hits, the Rangers scored three in the top of the sixth to bring them within three, 10-7. Freshman Emily John (Beaverton, Oregon), sophomore Bradey King (Loveland, Colorado), and senior Taylor Wilcox (El Centro, California) each recorded RBI's.
On one out, senior Brianna Bogdajewicz (Streamwood, Illinois) singled to left to score freshman Delaney McGinn (Arvada, Colorado). Then, on two outs, and the Rangers down 10-8, sophomore Carlie Sexton (Littleton, Colorado) scored the pinch runner freshman Breana Pearsall (Fremont, California) with the tying run standing on third. Bogdajewicz evened the score at tens to be followed up by the Pioneers pitcher walking sophomore Alyssa Finger (Las Vegas, Nevada) to give the Rangers the go-ahead run, 11-10.
Regis forced Texas Woman's to go one, two, and three in the bottom of the seventh to seal the impressive come from behind victory. The Rangers were led offensively by Aviles, Bogdajewicz, and John all recording two hits apiece. Of RU's nine total, King and Aviles each tallied two.
Both Regis pitchers saw action but it was Aviles that earned the win moving to an overall record of 21-9.
In the second game, RU ran out of juice, St. Mary's dropped a four-spot in the bottom of the first to control the lead and the Rangers could not assemble another comeback.
Regis scored one each in the top of the second and fourth from Sexton and Finger but the powerful offensive hitting from the Rattler's was too much to slowdown.
The Rangers 2015 season ends with an overall record of 32-19 and many accomplishments to not go unnoticed. The Rangers went undefeated throughout the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament to capture the Championship and advance to the NCAA Division II National Tournament for the first time since 2011.
