Box Score DENVER, Colo. - The Regis University women's soccer team continued their streak of brilliance as they took down the California State University- Dominguez Hills Toros by a score of 4-0. The victory marked the first home victory of the season and third overall for Regis.
As the two teams fought to gain an advantage offensively, neither team was able to score a goal in the first half. Constant back and forth exchanges between RU and CSU-DH coupled with great defensive stands limited any scoring opportunities that may have come. The Rangers took seven shots while holding CSU-Dominguez Hills to only four.
Early into the second half, Regis was able to break the deadlock. Junior Cat Anger collected a loose ball and sent it past the CSUDH keeper for her first goal of the young season. The goal by Anger opened the floodgates for the Rangers. In the 60th minute, a corner kick by junior Akina Fujimoto found the head of junior Maison O'Neill who struck the ball into the upper left corner of the net.
RU was not finished as freshman Annika Hills took a cross from sophomore Caelyn Hirschman and connected on the first goal of her Ranger campaign. Minutes later redshirt-junior Sade Akindele collected her first goal of the season as redshirt-senior Regan Bosnyak found her streaking down the right side of the field.
Each goal represented the first goal of the season for each respective Ranger. RU outshot the Toros 22-7 and put 11 of those shots on goal. The Rangers won the corner kick battle 8-4, scoring one of their goals on the set piece. Akindele led the team in shots and shots on goal, while junior goalkeeper Kat Crump collected her second consecutive shutout making seven saves.
RU will return home to face Cal Poly Pomona on Sunday September 13 at noon on the Regis Match Pitch.
