GUNNISON, Colo. – Sade Akindele scored her second and third goals of the season in the Regis University women's soccer team (4-2, 1-1 RMAC) win over Western State (3-2-1, 1-1 RMAC) on Sunday.

After a quiet first half from each side that resulted in zero goals, the second half proved to be quite different. In the opening minute of the second half, junior Maison O'Neill crossed a ball to the right side of the box allowing sophomore Mickie Piechowski to slide in and score the first goal of the game. The goal marked Piechowski's second goal of the season while O'Neill picked up her first assist.

Piechowski then assumed the role of playmaker as she delivered a ball in front of the net reaching the feet of redshirt-junior Sade Akindele for the Rangers second goal. With 20 minutes remaining in the second half, Western State mounted an attack that resulted in a Mountaineer goal, cutting the RU lead to one. 

Senior Sid Otto got in on the action with the game tight and Western State looking for the equalizer. Otto carried the ball onto the WSCU side of the field setting up a pass to Akindele for her second goal of the game, putting Regis up by two with only minutes remaining.

Five separate Rangers had shots on goal including seniors Danielle Dageenakis, and Sid Otto, juniors Cat Anger and Sade Akindele, and sophomore Mickie Piechowski. Junior goalkeeper Brianna Randall picked up her first win between the posts making four saves.

The women's soccer team will return home to face Colorado Mines on Friday, September 25 at 4:30 p.m. on the Regis Match Pitch.
