Box Score DENVER, Colo. - The Regis University men's soccer team (2-2, 1-1 RMAC) picked up their first conference win on Sunday, shutting out Adams State University (1-4, 1-1 RMAC).
Regis was on a mission to get into the Adams State defense and cause havok. Two minutes into the game sophomore Sawyer Lincoln collected a ball on the outside, sent in a cross that found senior Elliot Sutcliffe who directed the ball to sophomore Eduardo Belmar for his first goal of the season.
The goal by Belmar sent the Rangers into halftime with a 1-0 lead. The momentum continued for RU early in the second half. Senior Kade Hanson used a well timed attack on the left side of the field to find a streaking Belmar who netted his second goal of the game. Hanson picked up his first assist on the play.
Regis would put the nail in the coffin minutes later as sophomore Zach Huff crossed the ball to Sawyer Lincoln who settled the ball and finished for his first goal of 2015. Senior Christian Nicolosi picked up his first shutout of the season as he collected two critical saves on a couple dangerous ASU attacks.
RU took 21 shots, putting nine on goal on their way to the victory. Defensively, Regis limited the Grizzlies attack to two shots on goal, and only one corner kick very late in the game. Seven different Rangers put shots on goal with Lincoln and Belmar leading the team with two, respectively.
The men's soccer team will be on the road to take on South Dakota Mines on Friday, September 25. The next home game will be Sunday, September 27 as the Rangers host Westminster (Utah) at noon.
