Box Score DENVER, Colorado - The Regis University women's soccer team lost a tough conference game to Colorado Mines on a late overtime goal from Caitlin Kaltenbaugh.
Sophomore Rikki Fix (Boise, Idaho) got the first goal of the game on through ball from redshirt-junior Sade Akindele (Thornton, Colorado) in the 40th minute. The goal gave Regis the lead heading into halftime.
Coming out of halftime and riding the momentum of the goal by Fix, RU put together an attack on the right side that ended with a cross from junior Taylor Hendren (Highlands Ranch, Colorado) finding sophomore Akina Fujimoto (Meridian, Idaho) in front of net for the Rangers' second goal of the game.
Leading 2-0 in the second half, Regis committed a foul that set up a free kick for Colorado Mines. Midfielder Caitlin Kaltenbaugh of CSM delivered a cross into the box that found the head of fellow midfielder Brooke Stoermer for the first Oredigger goal.
Nine minutes later, Mines would collect another goal as a deflected shot fell to the feet of midfielder Acacia Ortiz who found the back of the net.
The teams finished the second half tied at two. Overtime began with Regis pressuring the Orediggers and creating a number of chances. Late in the ovetime period CSM put a shot on goal, saved by junior goalkeeper Brianna Randall, that careened out to Kaltenbaugh who put the ball in the corner of the goal for the Oredigger win.
RU took four corner kicks, but was outshot 21-9. Brianna Randall made six saves in the effort, but it was not enough to come out with a win.
The women's soccer team will return to the Regis Match Pitch on Sunday September 27 to host conference opponent Colorado Christian at 2:30 p.m.
