Box Score Salt Lake City, Utah- The Regis volleyball team (6-5, 3-0) traveled west today to face off with new RMAC member Westminster (4-8, 1-3). The Rangers will be leaving Salt Lake City with a win and a dominating one at that sweeping the Griffins in three sets. The Rangers remain at the top of the Rocky Division with a 3-0 record in conference.
The first set started off with each team trading points and the scoreboard quickly read 10-10. From there, RU was able to go on a 7-2 run creating a lead and some momentum in their favor. The Griffins attempted to stop the bleeding, but before long Jr. Katie Klein was closing out the first set 25-16 with back-to-back kills.
The second set was much of the same; Rangers and Griffins trading points to get half way through the set. Still, the Rangers capitalized on Griffin miscues to establish a lead and RU won set two by a score of 25-15.
The third and final set of the night saw the Rangers jump out to a 10-5 lead built on kills from Jr. Rachel McCue and So. Caitlyn Martinez. Later in the set, the Griffins were able to bring the Rangers within four at 20-16.
Coming into the night, the Rangers have only been able to close out their opponent 3-0 once before. Martinez's kill for the 25th point gave RU their second sweep of the season.
Klein finished the night with an impressive 16 kills on 27 attacks. McCue smacked home nine kills on 20 attacks with three serving aces and six digs. Jr. Cedar Bellows collected six kills on eight attacks. Fr. Brinley Beresford tallied 41 assists and Sr. Rebecca Sponcil led the team with 15 digs.
Regis will remain on the road for an away game at Colorado Mesa tomorrow night at 6 pm before preparing for a mid-week battle with cross-town rival MSU Denver September 30th.
