Box Score DENVER, Colo. - The Regis University men's soccer team (2-3, 1-2 RMAC) lost a close game to South Dakota Mines (1-5-1, 1-2 RMAC) by a final score of 1-0.
In a first half that yielded little scoring opportunities for both teams, Regis earned a penalty kick in the 18th minute. Senior Elliot Sutcliffe (Cheshire, United Kingdom) stepped up and drilled the PK only to be saved by SDSM&T goalkeeper Jack Seifert.
After neither team found the back of the net in the first half, both squads attacked often trying to break the deadlock. After a Hardrocker substitution in the 74th minute, midfielder Sam Letempt received a ball from forward Michael McGraw and netted the ball past, reigning RMAC goalkeeper of the week, senior Chrsitian Nicolosi (Highlands Ranch, Colorado).
The goal came right after Letempt entered the game in the second half. The Rangers were unable to convert on the 10 corner kick opportunities they earned. RU outshot SDSM&T 20-9, putting nine shots on goal. Sutcliffe led all Regis players with four shots on goal, followed closely by freshmen Ben Parson who put two shots on goal.
The Rangers look to make more of their scoring opportunities as the return home to face Westminster College on Sunday September 27 at noon.
