Box Score NAMPA, Idaho – Regis University women's soccer improved to 2-0 on the season with a 1-0 victory over Central Washington University on Monday.
After a tough first half that did not produce any goals, the Rangers applied constant pressure to the Wildcat defense looking to draw first blood in the second half.
Senior Alexa Lonsdale, picking up where she left off in the first game of the season, continued to create opportunities for the team. As she weaved her way behind the defense, Lonsdale connected with sophomore Rikki Fix up the left side of the field, allowing Fix to take the shot from 12 yards out giving RU a 1-0 lead.
After taking the lead, Regis did not concede many opportunities defensively. Sophomore Maggie Saras and the RU backline repeatedly forced the Wildcats into poor, off-balanced shots limiting the danger in their defensive zone.
Central Washington took 12 shots in the game with only four shots reaching junior goalkeeper Kat Crump, earning her first shutout of the season. With this shutout, Regis drops their goals against average to 0.96 through two games.
Senior Sid Otto and redshirt-junior Sade Akindele led the Rangers in shots and shots on goal for the game with 2, respectively. As a team RU was very efficient on offense taking six shots, all of which were on goal.
The Rangers return home to face California State- Dominguez Hills on Friday, September 11 at 5:00 pm on the Regis Match Pitch.
