Four in double-digits as Rangers return to Denver earning another road win

Box Score

LAS VEGAS, N.M. – The Regis University Ranger women's basketball will come away from a long road weekend with two wins after the 71-62 defeat of the New Mexico Highlands Cowgirls (2-14, 0-11 RMAC), Saturday night.

A slow start for the Rangers gave the Cowgirls the advantage after the first quarter of play, 20-17. A free throw from Majestie Robinson at the 7:46 mark in the second gave RU their first lead of the game, 25-24. Moving forward, the lead would remain with the visitors but Highlands continued to keep it close.

Knowing they could not allow the Cowgirls a breath of a chance, Regis' 40-32 lead at halftime was quickly extended to 14, 50-36, off another Robinson free throw. Highlands responded with a 12-2 run to bring the RU lead back to single-digits, 52-48.

The Cowgirls would continue to fight throughout the fourth quarter but a poised Regis team finished the game strong with the help of four Rangers netting double-digit points on the night. Caresse Williams led RU with 18 knocking down 6-of-10 from the charity stripe, 5-of-12 from the field, and 2-of-3 from distance.

Kaylie Rader posted another double-double, her sixth of the season, dropping 17 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Bay'lee Purdy and Robinson added 13 and 12 points, respectively. Robinson also chipped in with team-high four of the Rangers 12 assists.

Regis was sent to the free throw line 30 times to just nine for the Cowgirls to score 20 points while the clock was stopped. RU dominated the boards outrebounding Highlands 43-29 and attacking the offensive glass for 15.

Earning their third win in a row, the Rangers move to an overall record of 9-8 and hold steady at 7-4 in the conference. Regis returns to their home court playing host to Colorado Mesa (10-5, 7-4 RMAC) and Westminster (6-9, 3-8 RMAC) on Friday, January 22 and Saturday, January 23. Both game times are set for 5 p.m.
