Box Score DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University men's basketball team (4-8, 2-4 RMAC) took care of business in their first game of 2016, taking down Colorado State University-Pueblo (7-5, 3-3 RMAC) by a score of 93-85.
In their first game of the new year, Regis got off to a slow start offensively, finding their groove in the second half and playing tough defense. In the first half, the Rangers held CSU-P to 35.7 percent shooting from the field including 3-14 shooting from beyond the arc.
On the offensive end, senior Billy Hansen led all RU scorers at the break with nine points on 3-4 shooting from three-point land. Sophomore Dexter Sienko managed to score eight points, making all four of his shot attempts and collecting three steals. Junior Noah King dished out five assists in the first half serving as the primary playmaker for Regis.
In the second half, the Rangers really got rolling offensively as they connected on 7-16 three-point attempts, shooting 20-35 overall. Sienko continued to dominate as he was able to drive the ball and dunk it on his defenders while also earning the foul on a couple occasions. Junior Elijah Sanders broke out in the second half converting on all five of his attempts, he finished with 14 points as he and freshman Ryan Beisty shared the team-high in rebounds with seven apiece.
N. King posted a career high in assists with 13 which also ties the Regis single game record previously held in 2001. The Rangers finished the night shooting 52.3 percent from the field and knocked down 10 three-pointers. Five players for RU scored in double-digits including Sienko (22), Hansen (16), Sanders (14), Beisty (10), and freshman Jarrett Brodbeck who chipped in 15 points of his own.
The men's basketball team will return to action tomorrow night as they host Western State Colorado University at 3 p.m. in the Regis Fieldhouse.
