RU blows by Western State 93-73

Box Score

DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University men's basketball team (5-8, 3-4 RMAC) played the second game of back-to-back contests, remaining undefeated in 2016 as they took down the Western State Colorado University Mountaineers (2-11, 1-6 RMAC) 93-73.

Regis picked up where they left off the night before knocking down seven three-pointers in the first half. Junior Noah King led the way going 4-4 from the field and knocking down both of his attempts from beyond the arc.

The Ranger defense remained strong as they held the Mountaineers to 37.9 percent shooting in the first half. RU ended the half on a 10-0 run that was capped off with a three-pointer from freshman Jarrett Brodbeck as time expired, giving Regis a 15-point lead after 20 minutes of play.

The Rangers demonstrated much of the same intensity on defense in the second half as they never allowed Western to get closer than 10 points at any point throughout the half. Sophomore Dexter Sienko was able to get deep into the Mountaineer defense and bull his way to the basket. Sienko finished the game with 22 points to lead all RU scorers and also tracked down a team-high eight rebounds that he shared with freshman Ryan Beisty who also grabbed eight.

As a team Regis shot 52.5 percent for the game and knocked down 14 three-pointers, five of which came from Brodbeck. For the second night in a row, the Rangers had four or more players score in double-digits including Sienko (22), Brodbeck (19), senior Billy Hansen (15), and N. King (12). RU outrebounded Western 36-32, and also stole the ball seven times to three for the visitors.

The men's basketball team will be on the road for their next four games before returning home to face Colorado Mesa on Friday, January 22 at 7 p.m. Regis will host Westminster College (Utah) the following night, Saturday, January 23 at 7 p.m. for their annual Alumni Night.
