Box Score SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Regis University Rangers women's soccer team (5-6-2, 5-3-1 RMAC) made the lengthy trip to South Dakota to face Black Hills State University (1-11, 0-7 RMAC) in the only game they have scheduled for the weekend. Regis buried the Yellow Jackets 7-0 on Friday afternoon, their largest margin of victory since 2009.
Opening the first half with a bang was freshman
Tori Rinsem who netted her team-leading seventh goal of the season after only one minute and 25 seconds of play. With a very early 1-0 lead, the Rangers continued to attack with menace and in the 15
th minute senior Cat Anger connected on a pass from junior
Mickie Piechowski, slotting the ball past the keeper and into the net, to give RU a 2-0 lead.
Regis was only getting started in the first half as senior
Maison O'Neill got in on the action pocketing her second goal of the season in the 23
rd minute, putting the Rangers up by three goals not even midway through the first half.
The second half was the same narrative as RU dominated on both ends of the field. In the 59
th minute, Anger struck again as she blasted a ball straight into the goal to give Regis a 4-0 lead. Five minutes later, Anger capped her day off with her third goal, giving her the first hat-trick of her career, bringing the score to 5-0 in favor of the visitors.
Sneaking into the action late in the game were redshirt-senior
Sade Akindele, and freshman
Sofia Garcia, tallying one goal apiece in the final 20 minutes of play. Sophomore
Annika Hills picked up the assist on the goal by Akindele, for her first points of the year. With the final two goals from Akindele and Garcia, the Rangers cruised to a 7-0 win on the road against BHSU.
RU blasted 37 shots in the game, putting 18 of them on target. The team also held the Yellow Jackets to only three shots on the day. All three shots were on goal but senior
Kat Crump was there to make three saves on the day, picking up her fifth win of the season. The visitors also dominated the corner kick battle 10-0.
Next up for the women's soccer team is a match against No. 3 Colorado School of Mines (11-1-0, 6-1 RMAC) in a non-conference match on Tuesday, October 18 at 3:30 p.m. on the Regis Match Pitch. Later that week the ladies will match up with Western State (4-6-1, 2-4 RMAC) on Friday, October 21 at 3:30 p.m. and then UC-Colorado Springs (2-8, 2-4 RMAC) on Sunday, October 23 at noon. All three games will home contests for Regis.
