Box Score DENVER, Colo. - After a draw in their most recent match against Westminster College, the Regis University women's soccer team improved to 3-5-2 and 3-2-1 in conference with the 3-0 win over the Colorado Mesa University Mavericks, Sunday afternoon.
Â
The Rangers jumped into an early 1-0 lead in the first half with an impressive finish by
Rikki Fix. Fix notched her second goal of the season in the eighth minute touching the ball out in front while sprinting at full speed and composing herself to slot one on the ground past the Mavericks keeper.
Â
Fix's goal set the tone offensively for RU as they continued applying pressure forcing the Colorado Mesa defense to make plays. Regis saw several opportunities outshooting CMU 5-2 and producing five corner kicks. In one of the corner kick chances,
Akina Fujimoto lofted an in-swinger that arched all the way to the back post, hit the post and bounced back into play only to be cleared by a Mavericks defender.
Â
Despite dominating offensively throughout the remainder of the first half, Regis continued to hold a slight one-goal lead at the break. The Rangers picked up right where they left off in the second half.
Â
Caelyn Hirschman netted the much anticipated second goal from the Rangers in the 52
nd minute when she struck the ball off a free kick, roughly 20 yards out, into the back of the net. Hirschmann's first goal of the season gave RU a 2-0 lead.
Â
In the 73
rd minute,
Emily Ramos found herself wide open in the middle of the box to successfully finish a perfectly placed ball from
Sofia Garcia. That, too, would be Ramos' first goal of the season and Garcia's third assist. The Rangers lead the shot tally on the day 13-8 while also dominating the corner kick game with ten to the Mavericks one.
Â
Kat Crump recorded all 90 minutes between the posts while making two saves on eight shots faced.
Â
Regis will face Colorado State University-Pueblo (6-3, 3-2 RMAC) on Friday, October 7 at 7 p.m. in Pueblo, Colo.
