Box Score DENVER, Colo. - The Regis University women's soccer team (8-7-2, 8-3-1 RMAC) met up with cross-town rival Metropolitan State University-Denver (7-5-4, 6-4-2 RMAC) on Sunday afternoon and closed out their regular season with a 2-0 shutout.
Looking to get out fast and push the tempo, Regis put together many offensive attacks in the opening half which ultimately led to their success.
Junior
Akina Fujimoto joined the build-up on an offensive attack, taking a pass from fellow junior
Rikki Fix, and netting her first goal of the season to put the Rangers up 1-0 in the tenth minute. The assist was Fix's third of the season.
Nearly 30 minutes later as the first half was winding down, the third junior to get in on the action was
Mickie Piechowski who scorched her sixth goal of the season after she received a pass from freshman
Sofia Garcia, who picked up the assist on the play and extended her point streak to five straight matches.
With a 2-0 lead, the home team was in firm control of the match as both teams broke for halftime of a very important end of the season match.
The second half was much less exciting than the first as neither team put a ball in the back of the net. RU was outshot, 7-6, and they conceded four corner kicks in the second half, but senior
Kat Crump had a brilliant performance on Senior Day making six saves and earning her fourth shutout of the season, to preserve the victory.
As a team Regis finished the day with 18 shots (nine on goal), two corner kicks, and a very important regular season finale win.
Up next for the women's soccer team is the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Tournament which is set to begin on Wednesday, November 2. As of right now, the team sits in the No. 3 seed and will await the results of matches from around the conference to find out who they will play in the first round.
