Box Score DENVER, Colo. - The Regis University women's soccer team (3-6-2, 3-3-1 RMAC) invaded the campus of Colorado State University-Pueblo (7-3, 4-2 RMAC) on Friday night, but were unable to come away with a victory falling 2-1 to the Thunderwolves.
The opening period of play saw both teams get their fair share of shots combining for seven shots. CSUP struck first as they netted a goal in the 20
th minute as they took a 1-0 lead. The lead would hold when the horn sounded for halftime and both teams looked to regroup, reorganize, and revamp their game plans.
With both teams rearing to get back to action, the second half began and both teams fought for possession. Each side had a difficult time finding opportunities to score, with CSUP taking their first shot 13 minutes into the half. Senior Cat Anger took a shot in the 57
th minute that hit the post, nearly tying the game at one goal apiece.
In the 75
th minute, the Thunderwolves struck again as they extended their lead to 2-0. RU was far from giving up. Freshman
Tori Rinsem gave RU a fighting chance as she netted her fifth goal of the season in the 84
th minute.
Unfortunately, Regis was unable to collect the equalizer in the final six minutes and CSUP earned the conference victory. Overall the home team outshot the Rangers 10-5, also edging the corner kick battle 4-3. Senior
Kat Crump picked up two saves in the game to lead both keepers.
The women's soccer team will remain on the road as they travel to New Mexico Highlands to visit the Cowgirls (2-6-1, 2-3 RMAC) on Sunday, October 9 at 1 p.m.
