Rangers advance in dramatic ending, Crump comes up big

Box Score DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University women's soccer team advanced to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference semifinal in a match that saw a full 110 minutes of action and a dramatic shootout finish.

The Rangers came out on top ending the Colorado Christian Cougars season with clutch penalty kicks from Caelyn Hirschman and Mickie Piechowski. Regis did not even allow CCU to into their defensive third until 10 minutes into the first half and successfully squandered the visitors from gaining any sort of offensive momentum.

Regis consistently dominated play throughout the length of the match outshooting the Cougars 23-5. RU put seven of those on frame and produced 11 corner kick opportunities to CCU's none.

With full time nearing zeroes, Sade Akindele laced a shot in from the top of the box forcing Shaya Lawrence to make the save to send it to overtime.

Play throughout the overtime periods was once again controlled by the Rangers. Piechowski saw a one-on-one opportunity but again, Lawrence, came up with the save. Just in the overtime periods, RU outshot CCU 10-0. Colorado Christian was able to hold off a pressing Regis offense to push the game into a penalty kick shootout.

First shooters for both teams missed the frame as the score remained at 0-0. The second shooter for the Rangers, Maison O'Neill sailed it over the cross bar but Kat Crump kept it at 0-0 making one of her two saves of the shootout stopping CCU's second shot attempt.

Hirschman stepped up and put the first goal of the game into the back of the net. Then, Crump came up big again as she made a diving save against the Cougars third shooter. With Regis up 1-0, Piechowski drilled another one across the plain to give RU a 2-0 lead. The final kicker for Colorado Christian caved under the pressure and missed the frame giving the game-winning goal to Piechowski and advancing RU to the semifinals.

The Rangers will play the winner of No. 2 CSU-Pueblo and No. 7 Fort Lewis at Colorado Mines in Golden, Colo. on Friday, November 4 at 6:30 p.m.
