Box Score DENVER, Colo. – A record-breaking performance from junior
Chante Church helped lift the Regis University women's basketball team 67-59 over the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs Mountain Lions (6-4, 3-1 RMAC). Church was on fire dropping 40 on the night en route to setting a new single-game scoring record. The previous record was 37 held by Diana Lopez from 2006.
The Rangers did not waste any time taking a quick 13-0 lead at the start of the game. RU held UCCS scoreless throughout the first five minutes. An 8-0 run by the Mountain Lions slowed down the offensive momentum of Regis to shorten the deficit, 13-8.
The Rangers closed out the first quarter with a 7-3 run to maintain control of the lead at 20-11. UCCS continued to chip away at the lead coming within just one, 32-31, with two minutes to go before the break. A Church three-pointer followed by a pair of free throws from Brittany Hernandez in the final minute of play put RU at a slight 35-33 advantage at halftime.
The Mountain Lions tied it up, 35-35, in the opening seconds of the third quarter but Rangers responded with five unanswered buckets to regain control. Regis then surged with an 11-0 run which included six points from Church in a three-minute span and held the lead at 53-42 at the end of the third quarter.
UCCS put together a comeback of their own late in the fourth quarter but the Rangers were able to hold them off and come away with a pair of wins from this weekend of conference play.
Church went 11-of-16 from the field, 7-of-9 from beyond the arc and 11-of-14 from the line. She also chipped in with six boards and two steals.
Majestie Robinson added 13 points and three assists.

Kaylie Rader pulled down ten rebounds helping RU to outrebound the Mountain Lions 49-38. Regis forced UCCS to shoot just 11.8 percent from three-point land.
RU travels to Black Hills State and South Dakota Mines on Friday, December 16 and Saturday, December 17. Tip-off on Friday is set for 5:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
