Box Score SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – In the last full weekend on the road of the regular season, the Regis University Ranger women's basketball team defeated the Westminster Griffins (10-14, 7-13 RMAC) 73-55 to improve to an overall record of 17-9 and a conference record of 15-5.
The Rangers, who are newly ranked No. 8 in the South Central Region, struggled in the first half to find any momentum from distance but the difference was made up by shooting 46.7 percent from the field. However, forcing nine first half turnovers, slightly winning the battle on the boards 18-15, and outscoring the Griffins through the first two quarters of play placed Regis in a position of control at halftime, 31-26.
Westminster attempted to close the gap at the start of the third quarter dropping a quick five points to come within one, 31-30, but RU responded with five straight of their own. The Rangers continued to extend their lead reaching double-digits for the first time at the 3:43 mark in the third.
RU closed out the third quarter with a 9-1 run capped off by a Bay'lee Purdy three as Regis held a 53-36 lead heading into the final quarter. The Rangers controlled their largest lead of the game, 62-36, at the 7:09 mark in the fourth rolling to a comfortable road victory over the Griffins.
Regis dominated inside dropping 52 of their 73 points from in the paint. The Rangers recorded their most productive night of the season shooting 54.2 percent from the field due in large to the points scored in the paint.
This women's basketball team proves night in and night out their team focused efforts going down in the books for 14 assists, led by Majestie Robinson with five. There have been just four games thus far this season in which the Rangers did not tally double-digit assists.
Purdy led all scorers on the night with 23, her seventh 20-plus point game of the season. Purdy moved up the rankings in Regis all-time scoring to eighth on her big night going 10-of-18 from the field 3-of-7 from the line.
Kaylie Rader added 13 points on 6-of-11 from the field and was just one rebound shy of another double-double pulling down nine boards. Karlyn Johnson chipped in with ten points of her own and nine rebounds helping the Rangers to outrebounded the Griffins 38-30.
RU is back in action Saturday, February 20 at 5:30 p.m. against Colorado Mesa (15-8, 12-7 RMAC).
