Box Score

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah. – On their final road-trip of the season, the Regis University men's basketball team (9-17, 7-13 RMAC) faced the Westminster College Griffins (13-11, 9-11 RMAC) on Friday night, snapping their four-game losing streak with a 76-69 win.

Regis found themselves in a hole early, trailing the Griffins by seven points, 9-2 after three minutes of play. The Rangers chipped away and a 6-2 run put them within three points of WC five minutes into the first half.

Midway through the first half, sophomore Dexter Sienko had collected eight points to lead Regis scorers despite trailing 14-22. Freshman Jarrett Brodbeck helped the Rangers cut the deficit to one point by hitting back-to-back buckets, a two-point jumper and a three-pointer, to cap a 7-0 run from RU.

With his third three-pointer of the half, Brodbeck tied the game at 32 apiece. Sienko followed Brodbeck's shot with a layup and gave Regis a two-point lead. On the ensuing Rangers possession, Brodbeck knocked down another three-pointer extending the lead to five, 37-32, and giving him 18 points in the first half.

Junior Noah King nailed a shot from beyond the arc to give RU their biggest lead of the game, 40-32. The Griffins responded by making the last two baskets of the half sending the teams into the break with Regis ahead 40-36.

After two minutes of play in the second half, WC had tied the game at 40 points. Continuing through the second half of play, not many shots were falling for either team as they combined for 25 total points after nine minutes.

At the ten-minute mark, the Rangers had a 53-49 lead after a layup and free throw from senior Dylan King. RU took their largest lead of the game 67-56 on a shot from beyond the arc by Brodbeck, his sixth of the game, at the 4:03 mark of the second half.

Regis controlled the lock for the last four minutes, never allowing the Griffins within seven points for the remainder of the game. Down the stretch, the Rangers knocked down their free throws and they closed out the game with a win, 76-69 over WC.

RU snapped their four-game losing streak behind 30 points from Brodbeck (11-18 FG, 6-9 3PT) and 18 from Sienko (7-12 FG). D. King added 13 points on 4-7 shooting, while Sienko tracked down a team-high eight rebounds. N. King tallied four points (1-4 FG, 1-3 3PT), seven rebounds, and a team-high five assists that was shared with senior Kevin Marshall.

Regis outrebounded WC 37-35, and outshot the Griffins 49.1-43.5 percent on their way to the victory. Both teams turned the ball over nine times, but the Rangers were able to turn those takeaways into 17 points off turnovers.

The men's team will remain on the road to take on Colorado Mesa University (17-8, 13-6 RMAC) tomorrow night in Grand Junction, Colo. at 7:30 p.m. before returning to Denver this week.
