Box Score MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The Regis University women's lacrosse team (2-0, 0-0 RMAC) won their second game of the year on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Pfeiffer Falcons (1-3, 1-1 CC) 14-7.
Regis found themselves in a 2-1 hole ten minutes into the first half. Goals from freshman Sarah Myres on a free-position shot, and sophomore Jada Bonner put the Rangers ahead 3-2 three minutes later.
PU scored another goal to tie the game at three goals apiece, but RU ended the half with six unanswered goals. Freshman Wendy Donier scored three goals, senior Erin Todd added two goals of her own, and senior Abby Chimenti added another goal during the streak, giving Regis a comfortable 9-3 lead heading into halftime.
The Rangers came out of halftime with the same momentum they carried into the break, scoring two goals in the opening two minutes of the half. Donier and senior Emily Elkins combined to put RU ahead by eight goals, 11-3, with 28 minutes left in the game.
Myres' second goal of the game put Regis ahead 12-4 after the Falcons chipped away and added a goal of their own. With 24 minutes to go, PU scored back to back goals to cut the Rangers lead to six, causing RU to hunker down and respond on the defensive end.
For the last 21 minutes, RU limited the Falcons to a single goal while junior Erin Steiner netted her first goal of the game, and Elkins added her second. Regis came away with the 14-7 victory, doubling up on PU's goals and improving to 2-0 on the road this year.
Todd and Bonner tallied two assists apiece to lead the Rangers, as senior Melissa Hastie caused a team-high three Falcon turnovers, bolstering the RU defense. Bonner and Donier combined for eight draw control wins, with each winning four respectively. As a team, Regis collected 17 ground balls, and outshot PU 28-11.
The Rangers only committed 11 turnovers, and their defense was able to force 20 turnovers from the home team. RU was an impressive 13-14 on their clear attempts for the day. Sophomore goalkeeper Kenley Harrington made three saves in 58 minutes of play, improving to 2-0 on the season.
The women's lacrosse team will remain on the road to take on the Tusculum College Pioneers (4-0) tomorrow, Monday, February 29 at 3 p.m.
