Box Score 2 DENVER, Colo.- After last weekend's results, the Regis softball team needed a spark to get back to winning ways. Today, they may have just found that spark against Colorado Mines. The Rangers won both games of the double-header handedly with solid pitching and a total of four home runs. The Rangers run-ruled the Orediggers in game one in five innings at 8-0 and game two ended 10-6.
The Rangers jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning of game one. It started with junior Bradey King hitting a triple to left center field and freshman Macy Cox drove King in with a triple of her own. Cox scored next when senior Rachel Illias singled up the middle. Later in the inning, senior Ashley Prescott's single allowed Illias and junior Alyssa Finger to cross home.
In the second inning, the Rangers put up two more runs to extend their lead to 6-0. Illias scored again when junior Carlie Sexton singled to left field. Senior Nicole Aviles scored the sixth run when Finger doubled down the right field line. In the fourth inning, Finger smacked a pitch over the right field fence for her second home run of the season scoring herself and Sexton.
Game two started out much of the same with the Rangers scoring five runs in the first inning. King and Cox scored on a senior Nicole Hull single. Then finger hit her second home run of the day, this time scoring three runs.
In the second inning, sophomore Emily John scored thanks to an Illias ground out to third to put the score at 6-0. Then to start the third inning, Finger hit her third and last home run of the day. By the end of the inning sophomore Delaney McGinn put one more run up on the board to make it 8-0 through three innings.
Just when it looked like the Rangers may go back-to-back games run-ruling Mines, the Orediggers scored four runs over the next three innings to pull within two runs of the Ranger lead, 8-6.
Regis scored two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Aviles already on base, Sexton hit a home run to right field. The Orediggers tried all they could to get some offense going in the seventh, but the Rangers shut them down to end the game 10-6.
Finger lead the Rangers offensively going 5-7 from the plate scoring seven RBI's and four runs. Illias hit 3-6 driving in three runs and scored three times herself. Both Aviles and Hull earned wins on the mound; Aviles struck out six batters and Hull struck out two.
The Rangers will be trying to keep their momentum going tomorrow in the double-header with Colorado Mines to close out the series at the Regis Softball Field.
