Box Score DENVER, Colo. – With a layer of snow covering the Regis Lacrosse Field, the No. 16 ranked Regis University women's lacrosse team (6-1, 0-0 RMAC) was forced to move their non-conference game with Fort Lewis College (4-3, 1-1 RMAC) to Dick's Sporting Goods Park. Regis earned their sixth victory of the year with a 13-8 victory over the Skyhawks.
The Rangers started the game off with two goals coming from junior Anna Takushi, and freshman Wendy Donier. FLC responded with two goals of their own to tie the game at two goals apiece with eleven minutes remaining in the first half.
Following the Skyhawks tying the game, RU closed out the half on a 4-2 run to take a 6-4 lead heading into halftime. Senior Erin Todd and Donier both netted two goals during the run, taking assists from seniors Hilary Duda (2) and Katie Larson.
In the second half, Regis opened very similar to the first half, scoring two goals and then allowing FLC to answer with two goals. However, the Rangers were able to put together another four goal run to take an 11-6 lead with just under 21 minutes remaining in the game.
Back to back goals from the visitors cut the RU lead to three goals at 11-8. Goals from senior Emily Elkins and Donier closed out the game giving Regis the 13-8 victory. Donier was the leading scorer for the Rangers, netting five goals on the day, and scoring on each of her shot attempts.
Sophomore Kenley Harrington picked up her sixth victory between the pipes, making nine saves in 17 attempts. Duda had one of her best games of the season as she notched five assists to lead the team, and also added two goals of her own. Todd chipped in with three goals, while RU had three players cause three turnovers respectively.
Regis outshot the Skyhawks 27-22, as both teams committed 20+ turnovers. Draw controls were in favor of the Rangers as they won 14 to FLC's 9. RU also controlled the ground game scooping up five more ground balls than the visitors 25-20.
The women's lacrosse team will head to Pueblo, Colo. to face Colorado State University-Pueblo (3-2, 1-0 RMAC) on Friday, March 25 at 2 p.m. for their first conference match of the season.
