Box Score GREELEY, Colo. - After sweeping a four-game conference series with New Mexico Highlands this weekend, the Regis University baseball team (10-14, 4-8 RMAC) got back to action on Tuesday afternoon as they traveled to the University of Northern Colorado (5-15, 0-0 WAC) to face the Division I Bears in a non-conference battle. A slow start from Regis coupled with a hot start from UNC led to a 9-4 Bears victory.
The home team scored runs in each of the first four innings while also holding the Rangers scoreless during that time. Heading into the top of the sixth, RU was down 8-0, and poised to push a run across the plate. Senior Drew LaComb single to center field, sending junior Josh Newell across the plate for Regis' first run of the game.
The Rangers strung together a few hits in the top of the eighth inning as LaComb singled to left field. The next batter, senior Ty Overboe singled to right center putting two runners on with no outs. Two batters later sophomore Andrew Bryniarski was hit by a pitch, loading the bases for sophomore Christian Bitar. Bitar came through with a single to left field, scoring LaComb on the play. RU managed to get Overboe and Bryniarski to score in the inning, but it was the last time Regis would score in the game.
LaComb (2-4, RBI) and Overboe (2-4, R) each had two hits on the day to lead the team, and Newell (1-2, BB, R) tripled to center field in the sixth inning. Senior Nick DiPaola suffered his first loss of the season despite striking out three batters. Redshirt-senior Matt Hemphill came on in relief and pitched 3.2 scoreless innings, giving up only two hits, and striking out six batters.
