Struggles continue at Colorado Mesa for Regis softball

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The struggles continue for the Regis University Ranger softball team as they close out the series against the Colorado Mesa Mavericks with a pair of losses. With similar results as the day before, the Rangers fell 4-3 in game one and 8-0 in game two.

Regis immediately found themselves fighting from behind after the Mavericks scored one a piece in the first and second innings. However, in the third inning on two outs and a runner on third, Macy Cox sent one down he left field line and over the fence equalizing the score, 2-2.

Cox came up big in the top of the fifth to give RU their first lead of the series, 3-2, when she scored Delaney McGinn singling to center. With the bases loaded, on two outs, and an opportunity to open up the scoring, the Rangers left all runners stranded. A two-run home run over left field shifted control of the lead back to Colorado Mesa, 4-3, in the bottom half of the fifth.

RU would then leave four runners on base through their last two at bats to suffer the 4-3 loss. Cox went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and one run as the Rangers were outhit 11-7.

Regis failed to shake off the loss in the first game falling to the Mavericks in the second game to that similar of yesterday. RU recorded three hits and left five runners on base to CMU's ten hits as the host team defeated the Rangers 8-0 in five innings.

Regis will return to Denver for a home series against Colorado Mines Saturday, March 12 and Sunday, March 13. First pitches are set for 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. and 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
