No. 15 Rangers breeze past Hawks 23-2

Box Score

DENVER, Colo. -  The No. 15 ranked Regis University women's lacrosse team (11-2, 3-1 RMAC) bounced back after a tough loss on Tuesday to pummel Rockhurst University (7-8, 1-5 RMAC) 23-2 on Friday afternoon.

Regis did not concede a single goal in the final 42 minutes of the game, leading to a massively lopsided game. The Rangers exploded for 23 goals in the game marking a season-high for the team this season.

Freshman Wendy Donier got things started for the home team as she netted the first goal of the game 18 seconds into the first half. Rockhurst responded with a goal of their own three minutes later to tie the game at one goal apiece.

Back to back goals from Donier and senior Hilary Duda put RU up 3-1 after five minutes of play. A little over 17 minutes into the opening half, the Hawks scored their second and last goal of the game.

From that point on, Regis went on a 20-0 run to end the game with a 23-2 victory. Twelve Ranger players netted goals in the game with Donier leading all with four. Junior Erin Steiner scored three goals in the game, adding two assists on the day.

Seniors Erin Todd (2 G, 1 A, 3 SOG), Melissa Hastie (2 G, 1 A, 3 SOG) and Duda (2 G, 3 A, 1 GB, 3 SOG), sophomore Stephanie Bayer (2 G, 2 SOG) and Jada Bonner (2 G, 2 A, 2 SOG, 2 GB), and freshman Grace Rosenthal (2 G, 1 A, 3 SOG) all had two goals in the game.

Bonner dominated the draw control game as she won 10 draw controls in the game, helping the home team to a 22-4 draw control advantage. RU outshot Rockhurst 45-6 in the game, while also converting on 10-11 clear attempts. The ground game was also in Regis' hands as they tracked down 15 more ground balls than the visitors.

The women's lacrosse team will be back in action next weekend as they travel to Durango, Colorado to face the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks (6-4, 2-2 RMAC), before making the trip to Alamosa, Colorado to meet up with the Adams State University Grizzlies (0-8, 0-3 RMAC) two opponents the Rangers have already beaten this season.

The final home game of the regular season will be played on Saturday, April 30 at noon against Colorado State University-Pueblo (7-6, 2-2 RMAC).
