Box Score DENVER, Colo. - Sunday afternoon played host to the final game of a four-game series between the Regis University baseball team (11-17, 5-11 RMAC) and cross-town rival Metropolitan State University-Denver (12-14, 8-8 RMAC).
Regis fell to MSU-Denver 5-2 on the day, giving the Roadrunners the 3-1 series victory. Senior Dylan Navarro had two hits on the day to lead the Rangers offense attack. After scoring one run in the top of the first inning, RU did not score again until the top of the sixth inning.
Sophomore Connor Rochon earned an RBI in his first at-bat as he scored junior Josh Newell from third base. Redshirt-junior PJ Catera collected the only other RBI for Regis as his sacrifice fly to center field scored Rochon from third base in the top of the sixth inning.
Senior Kirby Schwein pitched a well-rounded game as he went 4.2 innings, only giving up two earned runs. Schwein scattered six hits, walked only two batters, and struck out two MSU-Denver batters on the day.
Offensively, senior Drew LaComb went 1-2 on the day while also picking up a walk. Newell and Navarro each picked up one walk apiece, with Navarro being left on base twice. It was the three-run bottom of the fifth inning that proved to be costly for the Rangers as the home team only managed to score a run in the fourth, and another in the seventh to take the 5-2 victory.
The baseball team will return home next weekend to play the Colorado Christian Cougars (7-25, 2-17 RMAC) in a four-game series. The first game will be on Friday, April 8 at 3 p.m.
