Box Score SALT LAKE CITY, Utah. – The No. 15 ranked Regis University women's lacrosse team (10-1, 2-0 RMAC) won their sixth straight game to eclipse the 10-win mark for the season. Regis beat conference opponent Westminster College (2-7, 2-4 RMAC) 18-6 on Saturday afternoon on the road.
The first goal of the game came at the hands of freshman Wendy Donier as she took a pass from senior Erin Todd, drawing first blood in the game. The two teams traded goals until Westminster took a 4-3 lead on back to back goals with 18 minutes left in the half.
The Rangers rattled off three unanswered goals as sophomores Rachael Walker and Jada Bonner, and freshman Sarah Myres all netted goals to give RU a 6-4 lead with just over ten mintes to go in the first half.
After another goal from the Griffins in the 22nd minute, Regis responed with four goals to end the half. Seniors Abbey Chimenti, and Hilary Duda, along with Myres (2) each scored to put the Rangers up 10-5 heading into halftime.
The second half of the game was dominated by RU. Eight goals were scored by the visitors in one of the most lopsided halves of the season. It was the defense that shined bright as they only allowed the home team to score a single goal in the second half, limiting them to only four total shots. Regis controlled the ball both offensively and defensively leading to a deciding 18-6 win for the visitors.
Donier scored three of her five goals in the second half with junior Erin Steiner also chipping in with two goals. Eleven Rangers found the net for goals in the game as five also nabbed assists in the game. Donier led the way with five goals, and Myres followed closely behind with three.
The leading assister on the day was Duda as she collected four assists on the day, but Bonner was right on her heels as she tallied three assists of her own in the game. RU had 17 draw controls to eight for the home team, while also outshooting WC by 20 shots.
The women's lacrosse team will return home for their toughest matchup of the season as they host No. 6 Lindenwood on Tuesday, April 12 at 4 p.m. on the Regis Lacrosse Field. There will be free Chick-Fil-A Sandwiches at the game brought to you by Regis University Athletics.
