Box Score LA JOLLA, Calif. – The Regis University women's soccer team (0-2-1) squared off with No. 7 ranked University of California San Diego (3-0-0) on Friday night, dropping the game 5-0 to the Tritons.
On a night where things did not go the way Regis wanted, the team got off to a rough start surrendering a penalty kick in the 11
th minute. The goal gave the home team an early 1-0 lead, and set the tone for the remainder of the match. Three minutes later UCSB extended their lead 2-0 on a goal by Katie O'Laughlin and would take that lead into the break.
The second half was much of the same for the Rangers who looked to find a rhythm on offense but consistently found their passing lanes and scoring opportunities run out. Defensively, RU figured it out for the first 25 minutes of the second half, preventing the Tritons from scoring.
After the 70
th minute, UCSD scored three more goals to put the game out of reach for RU. As a team, Regis took four shots, completed four corner kicks, and made two saves in the game.
The women's soccer team will remain in California and will now travel to San Bernardino to face the California State-San Bernardino Coyotes on Sunday, September 11 at 1 p.m. (MST).
