Box Score SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. –The Regis University women's soccer team (0-3-1) was outlasted by the California State University-San Bernardino Coyotes (1-3-0) on Sunday afternoon, falling 2-1 on a late goal from the home side.
Looking for their first win of the season, the women's soccer team got to work early in this one as junior
Mickie Piechowski took a pass from senior
Catherine Anger and took a shot that beat the goalkeeper giving Regis a 1-0 lead after only eight minutes of play.
The lead would not reach halftime as CSUSB found a way to equalize 26 minutes later in the 34
th minute. With the score now tied heading into halftime, the Rangers came out in the second half and kicked back into high gear, looking for the goal that would give them the victory.
Both teams clashed in the second half, battling for 50/50 balls, making counter-attacks, and locking down on defense. Despite the defensive effort from RU, the Coyotes broke the stalemate with a goal in the 62
nd minute, lifting CSUSB to a 2-1 victory over Regis.
As a team, the Rangers outshot their opponent but were unable to put more shots on goal, only putting three of their 12 shots on goal. Each of the squads took five corner kicks, but none of them amounted to any goals. RU finished the game with a flurry of shots, but it was too little, too late for the side trailing late in the game.
The women's soccer team will return to Colorado for their next two games which will be their first conference matches of the season. On Friday, September 16 Regis will match up with Colorado Christian University for their first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game of the season at noon on the campus of CCU. Two days later, September 18, the Rangers will invade Colorado Mines to face the No. 6 ranked Orediggers at noon.
