Box Score DENVER, Colo. – Coming off a fantastic 1-0 victory over the Fort Lewis Skyhawks on Friday afternoon, the Regis University women's soccer team (2-5-1, 2-2 RMAC) played host to the Adams State University Grizzlies (5-3, 2-2 RMAC) on Sunday and picked up exactly where they left off, scoring five goals in their 5-1 victory over ASU.
Regis enjoyed an offensive explosion on Sunday afternoon as they took down the Grizzlies on the Regis University Match Pitch. Junior
Rikki Fix wasted no time as she combined with freshman
Tori Rinsem to put the Rangers ahead in the sixth minute of the first half.
Rinsem sent a low ball across the box and Fix accelerated into the shot and slotted it past the keeper. The goal is Fix's first of the season, and the assist was Rinsem's first at RU.
19 minutes later, the visitors took a wild shot from distance and after taking an awkward bounce it slipped through the hands of senior goalkeeper
Kat Crump. In the 31
st minute, Rinsem struck again only this time she was the one doing the scoring. Freshman
Sofia Garcia crossed the ball to Rinsem, with her back to the goal, who somehow found a way to get her foot on the ball and put it in the back of the net for her third goal of the year, with Garcia picking up her first assist of 2016.
The second half saw much of the same offensive success for Regis as junior
Mickie Piechowski put the Rangers up 4-0 in the 64
th minute. Garcia picked up her second assist of the game on the play sending a cross to the far post where Piechowski was waiting to tap it into the goal.
Redshirt-senior
Sade Akindele got into the action as junior
Caelyn Hirschman took a corner kick and sent a beautiful ball into the box so that Akindele had a shot at goal. The ball ricocheted off of Akindele, putting the nail in the coffin with only 40 seconds remaining in the game.
RU outshot the ASU 25-10, putting 10 shots on goal and limiting the visitors to only three. Regis also dominated the corner kick battle as they took seven set pieces and only conceded three to the opposition.
The women's soccer team will play Westminster College (6-1, 3-0 RMAC) on Friday, September 30 in Salt Lake City, Utah before returning home to play Colorado Mesa University (3-3-1, 1-1 RMAC) on Sunday, October 2 at noon.
