Box Score DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University women's soccer team (0-1-1) played their second game of the 2016 season falling 2-1 to Texas Woman's University (2-0-0) on Saturday afternoon.
The game was played tight for the entire first half with both teams netting one goal apiece. Redshirt-senior scored the first goal of the game on a penalty kick in the 18

Less than six minutes later the Pioneers responded with a goal of their own when a misplaced pass from Regis found the foot of Nancy Chavez who took a touch past senior
Kat Crump and put the ball into an empty net.
At halftime the score remained tied at one goal, and both teams were gunning to take the momentum back once the second half started. TWU was the team that capitalized, scoring their second goal of the game in the 59
th minute.
Trailing by one goal the Rangers never stopped fighting or attacking, freshman Sophia Garcia sent a shot at the goalie who made a great save to salvage their lead. Fellow freshman
Emily Ramos entered the game in the 63
rd minute and within four minutes sent a shot from more than 25 yards out that beat the keeper, but found the crossbar, ricocheting away from the goal.
Akindele and junior
Mickie Piechowski each had shot opportunities in the 86
th minute. Akindele's shot was narrowly saved by the goalkeeper, and Piechowski's attempt was blocked. RU was unable to knot the game up before the second half came to an end, giving the Pioneers the 2-1 victory.
Regis outshot TWU 19-15 including 10 shots on goal to six from the Pioneers. The Rangers also controlled the corner kick battle taking 10 set pieces, and limiting TWU to only seven in the game. Both teams were called offside on two occasions, and the visitors made five more save than RU, 9-5 respectively.
The women's soccer team will now head west to face UC-San Diego on September 9 at 6 p.m. MST, and California State University-San Bernardino on September 11 at 11 a.m. MST.
