No. 25 Rangers nab third-straight win, Sigler drops 19

Box Score DENVER, Colo. – The No. 25 Regis University women's basketball team won their third-straight game defeating the Westminster College Griffins (6-9, 4-7 RMAC) 62-47. The Rangers continue to represent their home court improving to an overall record of 13-2 and 8-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
 
For her sixth-straight game, Mary Sigler has produced double-digit scoring numbers to lead both teams with 19. She went 7-of-13 (53.8%) from the field and 3-of-7 (42.9%) from beyond the arc while chipping in with six boards, two steals and two assists.
 
Chante Church was the other top scorer for RU putting up 16 on 4-of-10 (40.0%) from the field and 8-of-10 (80.0%) from the free throw line.
 
How It Happened: The Rangers opened up the game dropping the first eight points to hold the Griffins scoreless throughout the first three and a half minutes. Regis slowly began to distance themselves from Westminster in the second quarter holding the largest lead thus far at 27-14 with just under four minutes to play before the break. The Griffins surged late in the second quarter decreasing the Ranger lead to 29-24 at halftime.
 
Although the Rangers never relinquished control of the lead, Westminster was hot from the field in the third quarter. RU remained calm taking care of business on both ends of the court to continue to lead 45-38 after three quarters of play.
 
The Rangers turned it on at the start of the fourth opening with a 13-2 run quickly increasing the lead to 18, 58-40. Regis continued to extend the lead holding the largest lead of the game at 18 with 1:41 to play and capture the victory.
 
Game Notes: The Rangers dominated on the boards outrebounding the Griffins 47-32 led by Karlyn Johnson with ten. Regis shot 37.3 (22-59) percent from the field and 25.0 (4-16) percent from distance. RU chased down 17 offensive rebounds to just eight by Westminster. Regis converted 19 points off their 17 offensive boards. RU held the Griffins to just a 7.7 percent three-point percentage. The Rangers netted 17 points while forcing 13 WC turnovers. Not a single Griffin player reached double-digit scoring. The Rangers went to the line 19 times and knocked down 14 to shoot 73.7 percent.
 
Next Up For The Rangers: RU goes on the road again traveling to Fort Lewis (13-4, 8-4 RMAC) on Friday, January 20 and Adams State (1-14, 0-12 RMAC) on Saturday, January 21. Both tip-offs are set for 5:30 p.m.
