Brodbeck, Sienko and King carry Rangers to 89-86 win

Box Score DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University men's basketball team held on in a thrilling 89-86 win over the New Mexico Highlands University Cowboys (7-12, 5-9 RMAC) on Friday night.

Sophomore Jarrett Brodbeck (24 points, 6-13 FG), junior Dexter Sienko (21 points, 10-17 FG, eight rebounds) and senior Noah King (20 points, 7-11 FG) combined for 65 points powering Regis to their 13th victory of the year. Brodbeck and King each splashed five three-pointers and were a combined 10-of-15 from beyond the arc.

How It Happened:  The Rangers took their largest lead of the game with two minutes to go in the first half, 39-31, on a layup from freshman Christian Little. Three minutes into the second half, the Cowboys fought their way back to take a 45-43 lead. The teams battled back and forth, but one of the key moments came right after NMHU got a dunk with the score tied at 73. Trailing by two, Brodbeck nailed a three-point jumper as he was fouled for the second time in the half. The shot put RU ahead by one and gave the momentum right back to the home team, which they fed off for the remainder of the game leading to a 89-86 win.

Game Notes:  Regis turned 15 Cowboy turnovers into 25 points, while limiting their own turnovers to six. The home side also edged out the visitors in the second chance category 15-13 despite being outrebounded 41-37. As a team the Rangers dished out 19 assists which is the second-highest assist total they have had this season. Little (10 points, 4-8 FG) led the way with seven dimes and King chipped in with six. Getting in the key and fighting to get to the basket was a clear priority for RU as they won the battle in the interior scoring 40 points in the paint.

Next Up for the Rangers: The men's basketball team will return to the court tomorrow night as they host the Colorado State University-Pueblo Thunderwolves at 7 p.m. in the Regis Fieldhouse.
