Denver, Colo. – Regis University Volleyball got a tough RMAC weekend off to a good start Friday, kicking off a pair of challenging home matches with a three-set win over Colorado Christian University. The victory was a lopsided one for the Rangers, who ensured an early night with 25-13, 25-21, 25-19 set decisions that earned the home squad their 21
st win of the year (21-3, 13-1 RMAC). CCU dropped to 13-9 and 10-3 in league play.
How It Happened: Regis' well-balanced attack served the Rangers well in the contest. En route to a .316 team kill percentage, RU flashed 46 kills and just nine errors in the match. The opening set featured a dominant showing from the No. 14 Rangers, who erupted for 17 kills and just three misfires compared to seven kills and six errors from the visiting Cougars. CCU scrapped to open the set, but were eventually stung by a momentum-killing run sparked by three-straight
Nikki Kennedy kills. The Rangers used an 8-1 run to close the frame, handing Christian their second-worst set loss of the season.

Though the second game saw a stronger attack from the Cougar squad, Regis' efficiency made the home team hard to stop. Posting just one error on 44 team attempts, the Rangers imposed their will across the net, with setter Sylvia Basso getting all of her hitters in on the action. Seven tie scores told the tale of an early battle, but Regis trailed only once and eventually found separation – pushing the lead after a 16-16 mid-game draw. Â
Â
With the Cougars eager to get themselves back into the match, the RU squad had to step up their defensive efforts. Fortunately, one of the strongest blocks in the conference showed up big – the Rangers quieted CCU hitters left and right with thunderous blocks that held all Christian surges at bay. The Cougars wound up on the losing end after committing ten attack errors – no match for Regis' famously lethal assault.
Â
Match Notes: Caitlyn Burroway found her groove early and only got hotter. The outside was ablaze from the pin, igniting for 14 kills to lead all hitters. Middle
Kristen Hornung continued her impressive offensive effort of late, going 8-for-21 without a single error. Kennedy added ten kills and a head-turning .400 attack clip from the outside. Libero
Kristina Schell totaled a match-high 15 digs.
Â
Next Up For The Rangers: The battle ahead will undoubtedly be a tough one for the Rangers – they'll square off against the RMAC's top-ranked Orediggers of Colorado School of Mines. No. 18 Mines brings and undefeated league mark into the contest. Game time is slated for 5 pm.
