Rangers come up short 71-66 against Texas Woman's University

DENTON, Texas – The Regis University women's basketball team (0-2) dropped their first game of the Best Western Premiere Pioneer Classic 71-66 to Texas Woman's University (3-0) on Saturday afternoon.
 
How It Happened: Regis was in control of the game through the first half as they went into halftime with a 34-29 lead. The Rangers' largest lead of the contest was seven (23-16), coming at the six-minute mark of the second quarter.  
 
Senior Mary Sigler (29 PTS, 10-20 FG, 5-11 3-pt) scored 10 first half points behind two three-pointers, three jumpers and two free-throws.
 
Coming out of the halftime break, the Pioneers converted their first two three-point attempts to take a 39-36 edge over RU. TWU stretched their lead to seven and Regis was unable recover. The Rangers cut the deficit to two on three separate occasions but the Pioneers went on a 6-0 run in the fourth quarter to stretch their lead to 10.
 
TWU shot a perfect 10-10 from the free-throw line in the final minute to close-out the game.
 
GAME NOTES: RU shot only 39 percent (23-59) from the field and 32 percent (9-28) from beyond the arch. Sigler led all scorers with 29 points, matching a career-high. Junior Majestie Robinson (3-12 FG) and senior Chante Church (4-8 FG) each added 10 points.
 
The Rangers scored 22 points in the paint and 15 points off turnovers, their bench added 17 points.
 
Freshman Whitney Jacob grabbed a team-high six defensive rebounds and sophomore Jaz'Myne Snipes snagged three offensive and three defensive rebounds.
 
Next Up for the Rangers: The women's basketball team will play Tarleton State University on Saturday, November 19 at 1 p.m.
