DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University men's basketball team (7-1, 2-1 RMAC) was on fire Friday night, shooting a season-high 58.8 percent from the field on the way to a 20-point feat over Metropolitan State University of Denver (3-6, 2-1 RMAC), 85-65.
How it Happened: Regis bounced back from a loss to the Colorado School of Mines with an impressive victory. The game started slow on the offensive sides of the court with the score just 5-3 in the Rangers favor five minutes into the contest.
There were seven lead changes before sophomore
Christian Little sparked the RU offense with four straight points. From there, Regis went on an 8-0 run to take a 19-11 edge. They extended their advantage to as many as 13 and made the last three shot attempts of the half to go into the break with a 34-21 cushion.
The Rangers surrendered just 21 first half points, the fewest they've given up in a half this season.
MSU turned it around in the second half scoring 44 points, but had no answer for the RU offense. Little and senior
Dexter Sienko led Regis' attack to a staggering 51 second half points.
The Rangers lead stretched to as many as 22 and never dropped under 15.
Game Notes: Sienko and Little each scored 20-plus points. Sienko dropped 23 while Little added 22. Junior
Avonte Nelms also put up double-digits, adding 13 points.
RU went 30-for-51 from the field (58.8 percent) and 7-for-16 from three-point range (43.8 percent). Regis' hot shooting helped them lead for 34 minutes of the game.
The Rangers defense grabbed 22 rebounds and created 14 turnovers (seven steals) that lead to 23 points.
Little and Sienko snagged a team-high five rebounds. The defense also had five blocked shots on the night.
