Box Score SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – In their final road game of the regular season the Rangers defeated the Westminster Griffins 63-56. The win brings Regis to an overall record of 19-6 and 14-6 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
How It Happened: Regis jumped out to a quick lead to start the game behind a layup from
Kaylie Rader and five straight points from
Chante Church. The Griffins scored their first bucket at the 7:12 mark.
The Rangers didn't score for almost the last five minutes. Wesminster was able to gain momentum creating an 8-0 scoring run on Regis. Headed to the second quarter the Rangers trailed, 11-15.
Majestie Robinson hit a jumper to kick off the second quarter only for the Griffins to answer with a jumper of their own.
McKenna Bishop hit a triple at the 6:17 mark to pull Regis within one, 16-17. Robinson added a pair of free throws to snatch the lead with just over five minutes left until half.
The Griffins answered with a three to regain the lead but
Mary Sigler made a layup to tie it back up at 20. Westminster headed to halftime with the lead after adding eight more points to the Rangers two.
Karlyn Johnson came out of halftime hot scoring the Rangers first five points and pulling them to within four points.
Westminster controlled the third quarter holding onto the lead and heading into the final 10 minutes up 38-34.
The Griffins hit a three to kick off the fourth quarter but Sigler hit one for RU to keep them within four points.
A Rader layup and Church three gave the Rangers a 42-41 lead with 7:22 left to play. Another bucket from Rader and four straight points from Robinson gave RU a five point lead with under seven minutes left of play.
Westminster was able to tie it up, 49-49, at the 3:04 mark. The Rangers gained the lead back on a layup from Johnson and remained ahead for the rest of play. Regis posted 12 points in the final two and a half minutes for the 63-56 win. Â Â
Game Notes: The Rangers shot 35.1% from the field and 25% from behind the arc. Regis grabbed 43 rebounds to Westminster's 35. RU capitalized on second chance points scoring 17 while the Griffins had only seven. Church led the team in points with 18 and had five rebounds.
Shelby Espinosa managed to pull within nine rebounds while Johnson added eight. Sigler and Robinson dished out three assists each.
Next Up For The Rangers: Regis returns home on February 24 to face South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 pm.
