Rangers close regular season on high note

Box Score DENVER, Colo. – In the final regular season home game of the season, the Regis University women's basketball team cruised past the Black Hills State University Yellow Jackets 78-51. The Rangers have qualified and will advance to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament for the fifth-straight season, 17th overall.

For the second-straight night, Karlyn Johnson led the Rangers and all scorers netting 14 points on 4-of-9 from the field and 6-of-7 from the line. Mary Sigler and Majestie Robinson added ten points apiece.

How It Happened: The Rangers began putting distance in the lead after 10-2 run capped off by back-to-back three-pointers from Sigler and Morgan Ducklow gave them a 19-8 lead. Regis did not let up in the second quarter continuing to extend their lead. The Yellow Jackets offensive struggles remained throughout the first half. A 6-of-12 performance from beyond the arc gave RU a 40-28 lead at halftime.

Regis hit a slow period offensively in the third quarter in which they went without a field-goal from the 7:15 mark on. Shelby Espinosa put an end to the scoring drought early in the fourth as the Rangers continued to control a 59-38 lead.

RU's domination remained a trend throughout the length of the second half as all Rangers suited up saw action on the court. Regis improves to an overall mark of 21-6 and 16-6 in the conference.

Game Notes: The Rangers doubled the number of rebounds of the Yellow Jackets 50-25, including another big offensive night with 19. Of RU's 19 offensive boards, 24 points were converted. Four Regis players recorded five or more rebounds led by Johnson, Shelby Espinosa and Jaz'Myne Snipes each with eight apiece. RU shot 44.8 (26-58) percent from the field, 36.8 (7-19) from distance and 76 (19-25) percent from the line. Kaylie Rader added seven boards, three of which were offensive while Sigler dished out five assists. The Rangers went to the line 25 times to knock down 19. RU converted 25 points off 15 turnovers. Regis held the largest lead of the game at the 1:21 mark of the second quarter, 48-18.

Next Up For The Rangers: Regis has earned a spot in the upcoming conference tournament as the No. 4 seed. RU will host No. 5-seeded Fort Lewis on Tuesday, February 28 at 5 p.m.
