RU takes care of Fort Lewis, advances to RMAC Shootout

Box Score DENVER, Colo. – The No. 4 Regis University women's basketball team defeated the No. 5 Fort Lewis College Skyhawks 71-61 to advance to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Shootout after taking a year off. The Rangers improve to an overall record of 22-6.

Kaylie Rader and Mary Sigler paced the offense for the Rangers both putting up 16 apiece.  The two combined for 21 rebounds and 12-of-24 from the field. Rader posted her second double-double of the season pulling down 12 rebounds.

Majestie Robinson added 15 points, notching her 10th straight game of double-digit scoring numbers. Robinson also went a perfect 8-for-8 from the line.

How it Happened: The Rangers scored the first basket of the game, but quickly found themselves trailing 9-6 early in the first quarter. Five-straight points from Sigler gave RU an 11-9 lead but the visitors managed to outscore the home team 19-14 in the first quarter.

Regis regained the lead 27-25 at the 5:25 mark in the second quarter coming on a layup from Sigler. Morgan Ducklow and Sigler score back-to-back lay-ups to take a 31-25 lead with 2:50 left in the half. A mini run brought the Skyhawks back into the game at 35-34, but Ducklow connected on a jump shot to give the Rangers a 37-34 lead heading into the halftime break.

The Rangers closed out the third quarter and opened the fourth with a 9-0 run capped by a Sigler three-pointer that ignited the Fieldhouse. RU extended their lead to the largest thus far at 55-46 and kept the Skyhawks at a distance throughout the remainder of the game.

Fort Lewis never backed down but the Rangers sat in control as time continued ticking off the clock. The Skyhawks fouled late in the game to stop the clock but the deficit was too large.
