Regis wallops CCU on their way to second-straight win

Box Score DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University men's basketball team (15-7, 9-7 RMAC) returned to the floor on Saturday night and walloped the Colorado Christian University Cougars (12-11, 9-8 RMAC) 89-60, exacting revenge for their buzzer-beating loss from earlier this season. This marks the most team wins (15) for the men's basketball program since the 1998-99 season in which the team won 18 games. 
 
Sophomore Jarrett Brodbeck scored a season-high 33 points as he went 7-of-17 from the field, knocking down six shots from beyond the arc, and finishing 13-14 from the charity stripe. Freshman Christian Little had a brilliant all-around performance scoring eight points, grabbing nine rebounds, picking up four steals and dishing out a career-high 11 assists.
 
How It Happened: Regis opened the game slow as the visitors scored the first five points, but the Rangers fought back to take their first lead 13-12 with 13 minutes to go in the first half. RU opened the game up to their largest lead 33-23 with one minute on the clock, but they too a 33-27 lead into halftime.
 
The second half was dominated by Regis as they tallied 56 points and limited the Cougars to only 33 points. Five minutes into the half, sophomore Ryan Beisty (6-11 FG, 5-9 3-pt) connected on a three-point basket to give the Rangers a 48-35 lead. As the half carried on, the home team kept their foot on the gas with Brodbeck nailing a trifecta, giving the team a 20-point cushion with five minutes to go.
 
With about one minute to go in the game, RU had opened their largest lead of the game at 89-58 as redshirt-freshman Taffy Tela (1-3 FG, 1-2 3-pt) splashed a shot from deep for his first three points of the contest. The home team closed out the win, earning an 89-60 victory and picking up their second straight victory.
 
Game Notes:  Little's 11 assists tied him for seventh all-time in the Regis record book for most assists in single-game history. Beisty ended with 17 points and grabbed seven boards, junior Dexter Sienko added 14 points on 7-of-10 shooting and five rebounds in a game that saw the Rangers outrebound CCU 41-37. RU also edged out the Cougars in second-chance points by a margin of 13-6 thanks to 11 offensive rebounds. The defense held the visitors to 36.4 percent (20-55) shooting from the field, including a staggering 14.3 percent (2-14) from deep.
 
Next Up for the Rangers: The men's basketball team will head out on the road next weekend to play the University of Colorado- Colorado Springs Mountain Lions (10-12, 9-8 RMAC) on Friday, February 10 at 7:30 p.m. before going head-to-head with cross-town rival Metropolitan State University-Denver the following night at 7 p.m.
